Serata pubblica: Incontro con l’ambasciatore Ernst Iten

In margine alla collezione dei Documenti diplomatici svizzeri (DDS), il centro di ricerca Dodis intende avviare una nuova collana di fonti e testimonianze. Il primo volume è dedicato alle Memorie dell’ambasciatore emerito Ernst Iten.
Entrato nel servizio diplomatico svizzero nel 1973, Iten ha rappresentato la Svizzera in luoghi e momenti di tensione: dopo le prime esperienze in Costa d’Avorio, Colombia, Iran, Argentina e nella delegazione dell’OCSE a Parigi, è stato nominato ambasciatore in Venezuela, in diversi Paesi dei Caraibi e successivamente in Israele, poi in qualità di delegato della Svizzera presso l’UNESCO e per la francofonia.
La sua carriera lo ha portato più volte nei punti caldi della storia mondiale – durante l’occupazione dell’ambasciata a Bogotà nel 1980, quando rappresentava gli interessi degli Stati Uniti in Iran nel 1981/82, durante la guerra delle Falkland o nel conflitto in Medio Oriente – e in ambiti di grande interesse culturale.
Le sue memorie, corredate da numerose immagini, offrono uno spaccato avvincente della vita di un diplomatico svizzero.

Social Sciences and Humanities Research Infrastructures in Switzerland event: paving the way for the future

As a follow up to the first event (31 May 2022) and of the position paper (November 2022), the coordination group of this initiative invites the members of the Swiss SSH scientific community interested in research infrastructures to a second event on 18 January 2023.

This meeting has three main objectives.

First, to raise awareness on the importance of research infrastructure in the SSH domain and how prioritisation and funding works (national and ESFRI roadmap process).
Second, to share experiences from other countries and the European level on how collaborations between projects and infrastructures work.
Third, to give a platform to potential new Swiss RIs in the SSH domain in order to reflect on needs of the SSH community and how to create synergies and join forces.

To reach these objectives, we will welcome four invited speakers from abroad, who will share their experience of how collaboration and clustering happened successfully in other countries and at the European level. In addition, the floor will also be given to several Swiss projects of RIs in the SSH field with the aim to reflect on user needs and possible synergies.

Finally, the day will end with a Round Table with an open discussion, in which invited guests from the SNSF, the SERI, swissuniversities, the SAGW and all members of the audience will have the opportunity to express themselves.

Neutralità al bivio?

La neutralità svizzera torna d’attualità nei momenti di crisi, ma spesso suscita malintesi e incomprensioni. Come già in anni recenti (nel 1993, dopo l’invasione del Kuwait da parte dell’Iraq, o nel 2014, dopo l’invasione della Crimea), la crisi ucraina ha ridato urgenza al dibattito, su nuove basi e in un contesto globale di tensione.
Il Consiglio federale si interroga e chiede agli esperti di individuare e delimitare le diverse opzioni possibili, tra neutralità integrale, temporanea o permanente, neutralità ad hoc, attiva o cooperativa …
Ma come è regolata la neutralità dal diritto internazionale? Cosa insegna la storia? Come separare la narrazione demagogica e mitica dalla realtà dei fatti?
Sacha Zala introdurrà il tema da un punto di vista storico e diplomatico. Dopo una prima parte in dialogo con Verio Pini, sarà data al pubblico l’opportunità di partecipare a un’ampia discussione su un tema di stretta attualità.

Neutral, neutraler, am neutralsten – Vortrag zur Neutralität der Schweiz

Mit dem russischen Angriff auf die Ukraine – einen souveränen und demokratischen Staat – ist auf unserem Kontinent vieles innerhalb kürzester Zeit ins Wanken geraten. Vor diesem Hintergrund wurde mit der Entscheidung des Bundesrats zur Übernahme der EU-Sanktionen die Schweizer Neutralität wieder ins Rampenlicht des öffentlichen Diskurses gerückt.

Wie neutral will, soll und kann die Schweiz eigentlich sein? Ist die Schweizer Neutralität Fakt, Fassade, Tugend, Mythos oder ein bisschen von alledem zusammen? Wie hat sich das Neutralitätsverständnis verändert und welche Herausforderungen bringt das mit sich?

Bei all diesen offenen und interessanten Fragen steht für uns fest, dass ein genauer und frischer Blick auf als unumstössliche, wenn nicht sogar als «heilig» gehandhabte Eigenschaften der Schweiz in dessen Einordnung in die dramatischen Ereignisse der vergangenen Wochen unabdinglich ist.

Aus diesem Grund haben wir Prof. Dr. Sacha Zala, Titularprofessor für Schweizer und Neueste allgemeine Geschichte an der Universität Bern, eingeladen, einen Vortrag zur Schweizer Neutralität zu halten. Als Historiker, der sich u.a. vertieft mit Fragen der Schweizer Neutralität und Diplomatie beschäftigt, kann er die Diskussion um die Neutralität der Schweiz in einen historischen Kontext setzen.

Wir freuen uns sehr auf diesen Input, der zweifelsohne eine ausgezeichnete Grundlage für eine ausgiebige Diskussion im Nachhinein liefern wird.
